Fall Arrest Ladder Systems – Vertical Rail & Cable

A fall arrest ladder system is a guided fall-protection system fitted to a fixed vertical ladder. A rigid rail or tensioned cable runs the full height of the ladder, and a sliding glider connects the climber’s harness to it — moving freely as they climb but locking instantly in the event of a fall. It keeps the user attached and hands-free throughout the climb, and is widely used as a safer, more comfortable alternative to a traditional safety cage.

We design, supply and install fall arrest ladder systems to BS EN 353-1, on new ladders or retrofitted to existing ones.

Assessment & Completion

Site Assessment — We survey the ladder, structure and access route, and assess ladder height, frequency of use and rescue considerations to confirm the right fall-protection approach.

System Design — Our engineering team specifies the rail or cable system, glider type and fixings for your ladder — all compliant with BS EN 353-1 and BS EN ISO 14122-4.

Installation & Certification — Trained installers fit the system with minimal disruption. Final inspection and certification confirm compliance and readiness for use.

Handover & Support — We provide user guidance, compatible PPE advice, maintenance protocols and ongoing inspection.

Not sure whether you need a fall arrest system or a cage?

For many ladders either can satisfy the regulations — the right choice depends on height, how often the ladder is used and rescue planning. We also install caged access ladders, and can advise on the safer, more practical option for your building.

A vertical fall arrest system or ladder safety system replaces the fall-protection role of a cage on taller or frequently-used ladders. Because the glider follows the climber and locks on a fall, the level of protection doesn’t depend on the user’s technique — and studies show a worker on a guided system is far less likely to be injured than one relying on a cage alone. The rail can mount to the rungs or to either stringer, so it suits both new installations and retrofits to existing fixed ladders.
